Man facing Armed Violence charge makes first appearance in court

A preliminary hearing was scheduled for a man who was arrested Friday after police were tipped off he was walking through downtown Galesburg while carrying a gun.

46-year-old Carlos D. Wright made a video court appearance in court with Judge Scott Shipplett who set bond at $150,000 and scheduled the next hearing for January 16th.

Wright was arrested on Friday when he was allegedly found walking through downtown Galesburg drunk with the gun in his pocket.

After an interaction with police where he was nearly shot trying to discard the gun, he was arrested.

Police also found in his possession, a baggie containing half a gram of cocaine.

A public defender was appointed for Wright, who faces several charges: a Class X Armed Violence, a Class 3 Felon in Possession of a Firearm, a Class 4 Possession of a Controlled Substance, and a Class A Misdemeanor of Resisting a Police Officer.
