Woman arrested Tuesday morning on assault and DUI charges

A Galesburg woman was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, and Criminal Damage to Fire Fighting Equipment following a Tuesday morning physical altercation.

Galesburg Police officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Michigan Avenue for a battery call at about 1:45. Officers were advised the complainant was still in her vehicle.

Once on the scene, officers made contact with 26-year-old Shabrell T. Coleman who was in a parked red 2006 Chevy sitting on the terrace. She informed officers she was attacked and pepper sprayed by a woman.

According to police reports, she had the smell of alcohol on her breath and her eyes were bloodshot and glassy.

Officers interviewed a neighbor who informed police that she was hosting a Christmas dinner with several people when Coleman arrived and began attacking a 29-year-old woman there.

Additional interviews determined that Coleman had scratched and torn the shirt of the woman – who tried to run away back to her apartment. Coleman allegedly pursued the woman in her vehicle – running over a fire hydrant.

At some point either prior to running over the hydrant or after, Coleman was pepper sprayed by the assaulted woman. Officers located the fire hydrant still underneath Coleman’s vehicle.

She was taken to the Public Safety Building to complete a sobriety test – which reports indicate failed.

On top of the aforementioned charges she is facing Battery and Aggravated Assault charges.
