Community event website launched to keep residents in the loop

A group of local entities including the Galesburg Area Chamber of Commerce and Galesburg Community Foundation have launched a website to make it easier for the public to know about community events.
Jessica Linder, the Executive Director of the Galesburg Area Chamber of Commerce says that gogalesburg-dot com went live on Saturday.

One of the things that precipitated the site’s creation was Galesburg On Track meetings.

Linder tells WGIL that a frequent remark heard was that there was nothing to do in Galesburg.

“Our conversation was especially to that there’s nothing to do in Galesburg comment, I don’t know about anyone else but my schedule is full all the time,” Linder says. “There’s so much to do that we can’t fit it all in. So definitely there was a disconnect there of what’s going on and how to find it.”

She says anyone can adds events to the site although its meant for community events.
That means things that are open to the public and intended for a “larger audience.”

Knox Corps student with the Chamber Emily Haggerot as well as a chamber intern did a large share of the work to get the site up according to Linder.
