OSF hospitals staying with Blue Cross Blue Shield

The on-again-off-again relationship between Peoria-based OSF Healthcare and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois is back on once again.

According to a statement from OSF Healthcare, the medical group has reached an agreement with Blue Cross to have its hospitals remain in the insurer’s PPO network in the foreseeable future.

OSF did not release any details surrounding that agreement, but says the move means uninterrupted access to “extensive high quality, in-network medical care and services….”

OSF had said in October it planned to pull only its hospitals out of network, including Saint Mary’s in Galesburg and Holy Family in Monmouth, out of the PPO network at the end of the hear, after Blue Cross had terminated agreements with three hospitals including Saint Mary’s.

Almost immediately after the announcement of the tentative termination, Galesburg Cottage Hospital and Unity Point-Methodist in Peoria said they were joining the Blue Cross Network.
