American Music Awards

Bruno Mars nearly swept the American Music Awards Sunday night. The singer led the pack of nominees with eight nods — and won seven trophies — including Artist of the Year. Bruno wasn’t at the show, but he provided a video in which he said, “I wish I could be partying with y’all.”

In country music, Keith Urban was the big winner — taking home three awards, including favorite male country artist. Drake was named favorite rap/hip-hop artist, while Kendrick Lamar took home favorite rap album and DJ Khaled nabbed best song for “I’m the One.” The night’s other winners included Lady GagaImagine DragonsLuis Fonsi and Daddy YankeeCarrie Underwood and Linkin Park.

Other show highlights included Selena Gomez‘s return to the stage following her kidney transplant. It wasn’t without controversy. Many fans on Twitter accused the singer of lip-syncing to her hit single “Wolves.”

The night’s craziest performance came when Pink sang “Beautiful Trauma” live while scaling the side of the JW Marriott hotel in downtown Los Angeles and performing acrobatics with a group of aerial dancers.

In honor of The Bodyguard soundtrack’s 25th anniversary, Christina Aguilera sang a medley of Whitney Houston songs from the album.

Her daughter, Tracee Ellis Ross, hosted the show, which will aired live on ABC from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
