NURSE ADOPTS GIRL EIGHT YEARS AFTER CARING FOR HER AS A BABY

Eight years ago, a nurse in California named Mary Ann Wells worked at a children’s hospital and met a two-and-a-half week old baby, who was in the hospital with a birth defect.

Mary Ann helped nurse baby Sophia back to health, often sitting by her side during surgeries. Then, Mary Ann and her husband, Steve, remained in Sophia’s life because the mother was often not able to care for Sophia and the father wasn’t there at all.

Now, Sophia is at full strength, going to school every day – and she’s been adopted by Mary Ann and Steve.

The couple, who are in their 60s, are spending their retirement differently than they had originally planned. Instead of vacationing and relaxing, they’re taking care of Sophia full-time as parents.

Not surprisingly, Sophia is very excited to have this new beginning, while Mary Ann and Steve are excited to continue this journey, which began eight years ago when Sophia was a tiny baby. (KABC-TV)
