Auction for Broadview delayed as city was planning bid

For the third month in a row a foreclosure auction on the Broadview Hotel was cancelled.

The Galesburg City Council had planned a meeting this morning prior to the scheduled sale to decide on possibly making a bid to acquire the property.

Mayor John Pritchard says that the cancellation of the auction resulted in the city canceling their meeting which was the only item they were scheduled to consider.

The city has not put forth what exactly they would plan on doing with the Broadview if they acquired it.

Previously scheduled auctions for the building have been cancelled in the last two months.

A judge in April ruled that the building would be foreclosed on, as the owners owe Umpqua over $1 million.

Any tenants of guests at the Broadview would have 30 days to vacant after the sale would be completed.

However, Pritchard says it’s his understanding the Broadview sale may have been delayed indefinitely.
