Abingdon Republican to run against Hammond in primary

A former Army Sergeant and administrator of Galesburg Christian School and resident of Abingdon is causing a full-blown primary election next year for one of the seats in the Illinois House.

Joshua Griffith used a news release and the launch of a campaign website to announce his run in the March primary against incumbent Norine Hammond of Macomb for the 93rd District seat.

Attempts by WGIL to contact Griffith for an interview have so far been unsuccessful, but the current Production and Marketing Manager for Locke’s Roofing and Siding in Galesburg says in a statement he’ll stand up for the interests of the district, “not do the bidding of Mike Madigan and the Chicago Democrats.”

Hammond has taken some heat recently for voting in favor of a state budget, and an accompanying tax increase.

Griffith refers to the tax hike that came with the state budget as “Hammond’s” tax hike, claiming it will cost residents across the district.

Democrat John Curtis, who previously lost an election bid to Hammond, has announced his intention to also run again.

NOTE: We are attempting to reach Mr. Griffith for an interview, which if conducted, we hope to air tonight (Thursday) on Galesburg’s Evening News on WGIL.
