Your weekend could include winning a spectacular trip or a doggie jog

You could help Carl Sandburg College celebrate their golden anniversary – which could mean winning some destination trips.

The Carl Sandburg College Foundation is holding their fundraiser: 50 Trips for 50 Years this weekend were they’ll hold a silent auction for 45 trips to places like Lake Hill Winery down in Carthage.

Stephanie Hilton, the Director of Advancement with Carl Sandburg College tells WGIL that aside from the silent auction, there will also be a live one with some spectacular getaways, “We do have our large getaway trips. So a week in Italy with a culinary experience. You get private cooking classes while you’re there. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity.”

In addition the foundation will be auctioning off a week-long stay in Hawaii as well.

Or… if you’re a fan of man’s best friend then make sure your weekend includes the silver anniversary of the Knox County Humane Society’s Doggie Jog.

The event is happening Saturday morning with registration starting at 9 A-M and running until noon and cost is $15 before the 16th, and $20 the day of.

Erin Buckmaster with the Humane Society told WGIL some of the fun that’ll be happening happening during the jog, “Rick Cross is going to be there taking some wonderful photos of you and your pet. You can just stroll around. We’re going to have silent auction items, prizes for top pledges. It’s just a fun event to see all the animals that come out.”

There are a few different awards being handed out too for the talent contests as well as the smallest and biggest dogs and more.

Money raised through the Annual Doggie Jog will benefit the Humane Society’s various operating costs.
