No ruling yet on whether juvenile charged with animal abuse will be tried as adult

A judge in Henry County is expected to rule later this month on a request by the State’s Attorney there to try a 17-year-old Kewanee resident as an adult on charges accusing of assaulting a young dog and leaving it to die.

Sources say that was learned during a court hearing Wednesday for the teen — so far charged as a juvenile for allegedly slashing the neck area of the two-month-old Labrador Retriever-Pitbull mix called “Thor.” Thor was found outside an apartment complex July 25th.

Henry County prosecutors have filed new counts of Animal Torture along with the Aggravated Animal Cruelty charge the teen already faced.

Sources say a judge told both sides he’d rule on the motion to move the case to adult court August 23rd. In the meantime, while the teen’s name continues to circulate through social media, his name still can’t officially be released.

Thor in the last few weeks has received a large amount of public and media attention, and is recovering from his injuries.
