Sandburg students riding city buses for free

Earlier this month it was announced that Carl Sandburg College and Galesburg Transit were partnering in a pilot program to allow current CSC students to ride city buses for free.

Free rides are limited to only Galesburg Transit – which are equipped with disability access – and current bus routes, Handi-Van service is not included in the free ridership.

Coordinator of Student Life at the college Genny Stevens tells WGIL that part-time, full-time, online, and dual credit Carl Sandburg students will get to ride Galesburg Transit buses for free.

Not presenting the correct identification will result in being charged for the bus ride.

Stevens says that this was an idea of hers she had had for a while. She says that the initial year they’ll be monitoring how it goes over to decide how-or-if to offer it in the future.

Funding for the pilot program was provided through a grant from the Carl Sandburg Foundation and sponsorship with the Sandburg Student Government Association.
