Bob Lindstrom receives service award from Rotary

The Rotary Club bestowed the Verne W. Dowers Exemplary Service Award to Bob Lindstrom yesterday afternoon.Lindstrom has a lengthy history of community service and involvement but was awarded chiefly for his 20 years on the District 205 School Board where he was president three times.

Outgoing 205 Superintendent Ralph Grimm said that Lindstrom has been “cussed, discussed, praised and criticized, admired and disrespected.”

Grimm says that Bob did what was in the best interest of students, taxpayers and staff and heaps praise on him saying he’s the “best Board President I have worked with in my 21 years as a District Superintendent.”

Lindstrom gave credit to long serving fellow members that made up the bulk of his tenure.

He mentioned the names of Carl Strauch, Deborah Harrison, Gloria Osbourne, Mike Panther, Leon Campbell and Barry Swanson

“The common core of all of those people where they ran to do what was best for kids and they all committed their time, energy and talents to doing just that,” Lindstrom says.

Lindstrom was once Galesburg Rotary’s President and at his final meeting in the office he said that was the best job in the world.

He amended his statement yesterday to say that he’s now served in two of the best jobs in the world.
