Jacie Kersh wins 2017 Great Galesburg Shake

Well over hundred students from around District 205 began the soft skills competition last week but last night GHS Senior Jacie Kersh was announced as the 2017 winner of the Great Galesburg Shake.
Kersh was a finalist along with freshman Annika Spring.

The 6th and final round was held at the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, Georgia where Clark, his students and faculty questioned Spring and Kersh and then selected a winner.

Clark’s 12 Tools for Triumph were adopted by District 205 in 2015 and the Galesburg Shake is modeled after RCA’s own competition the Amazing Shake.

The initial vote they took was deadlocked at 59-59.

They took another vote and it was tied again.

Back at GHS last night all of the final five, Caleb Riley, Natalie Nelson, Lily McNally, Spring and Kersh shared some words of what the Shake had meant to them.

Before revealing the champion, last year’s winner Lakota Beach said all five had “already won in their own way.”

Kersh was thankful for the opportunity to bond with chaperones and other participants, and said she was inspired by the students at the Ron Clark Academy.

“The shake is more than just going to Atlanta and seeing all these sites,” Kersh says. “It’s about the bond we created with eachother and I really learned a lot about myself that I didn’t see before.”

Kersh joins Beach and Sara Saey as a Great Galesburg Shake champion.
