Galesburg council will hear proposal to privatize Lake Storey Beach tonight

Tonight the Galesburg City Council could accept a pair of grants from the Illinois Housing Development Authority totaling $418,000.
Council has to vote to receive the grants, including one for $378,000 to assist low to very-low income homeowners with costly repairs and removal of health hazards.

Operation and Management of Lake Storey Beach could be privatized by council tonight.

Michelle Dennis has submitted a plan to operate and manage the beach that includes opening the waterslide, managing concession, boat rentals and putting lifeguards back on the beach.

Last year council approved making the beach a “swim at your own risk” facility.

City operating costs will be reduced by $30,000 according to council documents and if Dennis turns a profit the city will receive 10 percent.
