Knoxville City Council approves Old County Courthouse upgrade

The Knoxville City Council met last night for the first time this new year. State Rep. Don Moffitt was in attendance making a stop on his farewell tour. He was there not only as a friendly face but also came bearing gifts.

Moffitt presented the council with a state flag that was flown over the capitol in Springfield. Many items were discussed over the course of the meeting, including a potential new retirement plan for city employees, a possible new ordinance on signage, and finally a decision was made on new windows for the Old Knox County Courthouse.

The council has agreed to go with a local business for the job, Glass Specialty with a final quote of $73,150. Toby Myers tells WGIL about how they arrived at their decision:

“A lot of it is we trust, not that we don’t trust the other glass places,  they are one of the exclusive pella dealers,” Myers says. “They’ll be steel, double pane now  so it will keep heating costs much lower and right now the panes are just falling out,” Myers says.

The Council looks to use TIF funds in addition to other resources to complete the renovations on the courthouse.
