Getting rid of your Christmas tree in Galesburg

Christmas has left us and soon the household Christmas tree must too.
Recycling your tree isn’t the only option but it’s been made fairly easy to do so.

The Lowe’s parking lot is a drop-off site for natural trees looking to be made into compost.

Additionally, Waste Management and the City of Galesburg are sponsoring a residential drop-off starting today and continuing through Thursday Jan. 5.

However you hand over the tree, take the time to remove all plastic, tree stands, lights and ornaments.

These items can damage the tub grinder used to chip the trees into compost.

Galesburg residents can also put the tree on the curb for collection, but, in a press release, the city reminds that these trees will not be composted but go to the landfill.

They also remind that wrapping paper is not accepted for collection in the city’s curbside recycling program.
