Moffitt, Sullivan awarded with state farm bureau honors

Two outgoing legislators that have been voices for agriculture in the state of Illinois were honored recently for their service.

State Rep. Don Moffitt and State Senator John Sullivan both received the Charles B. Schuman Distinguished Service Award which the bureau says is their “highest honor” bestowed. The awards were given at the bureau’s annual meeting in Chicago.

Moffitt is a member of the Illinois House’s Agriculture and Conservation Committee. In a news release, farm bureau President Rich Guebert says Moffitt has “championed agriculture and promoted the needs of Illinois farmers in the Illinois General Assembly for over 23 years.”

Guebert points to bills like the Illinois Livestock Management Facilities Act that Moffitt backed that sets environmental and building standards for Ag facilities.

Sullivan has also worked for state Ag interests. He’s a member of the Senate Agriculture Committee.and was recently awarded a service honor from the Fulton County Farm Bureau.

Both individuals did not seek re-election this term, Moffitt being replaced by Dan Swanson and Sullivan by Jill Tracy.
