2 arrested in Main Street meth bust

Galesburg police recovered roughly 36 grams of meth and other meth related items during a traffic stop yesterday in the 100 block of East Main Street.

Fifty-three-year-old Sherman Taylor and 49-year-old Darren Dugan, both of Burlington, Iowa face a number of meth related charges pertaining to the arrests.

Dugan is charged with the most serious offense of meth possession between 15-100 grams. The charge is a Class 3 felony worth up to 15 years in prison.

According to a police report, authorities were alerted of a possible sale in the area. An officer monitored the location and observed a vehicle being driven by Dugan and being ridden in by Taylor had expired registration.

Dugan did not have a valid driver’s license and was searched where police found a small bag of “crystal meth,” a small amount of marijuana and other paraphernalia items in his possession.

A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered more meth and parephernalia, including two large bags containing the substance.

In an unrelated pair of arrests, yesterday, police apprehended 37-year-old David Meehan and 28-year-old Emily Cahill on meth possession charges of less than five grams.

Cahill is suspected of concealing additional meth in her rectum, though officers and medical staff did not find any substance. All four individuals received $50,000 bonds this afternoon in Knox County Circuit Court.
