Trick or treating set for tonight in the Knox County area

Trick or treating is on the mind’s of kids around Galesburg and the country.

Tonight’s the night when towns and municipalities have designated for families to take their kids to houses in hopes of hauling in loads of candy.

You can find a list of exact trick or treating times for different communities below, but most run roughly for 5 to 8 p.m.

Galesburg is 5 to 8 p.m., Knoxville 6 to 8 p.m. and Monmouth is 5:30 to 8 p.m.

A safe alternative to going door to door is going on at Bethel Baptist Church, for they’re annual Trunk or Treat event.

Rick Stufflebeam tells WGIL it’s helpful to think of a trunk as being like a front porch.

“We have different theme trunks,” Stufflebeam says. “Usually we have somewhere around 30-35 different stations located in our parking lot and throughout our church that kids just stop and they get candy at.”

Stufflebeam estimates an average of around 35 stations at the church each year.

He calls them stations because in addition to car trunks there are tractors, hay racks and just people sitting in lawn chairs passing out candy as well.

Stufflebeam is unsure of when Bethel first held Trunk or Treat but he knows it’s seen vast growth since it’s beginning.
