South Carolina man arrested with 468 grams of marijuana in Amtrak bust

A Myrtle Beach, South Carolina man was arrested over the weekend traveling through Galesburg on an Amtrak train.

Twenty-six-year-old Daniel Kerwin appeared in Knox County Circuit Court this afternoon on a charge of possession of more than 30 to 500 grams of marijuana.

Knox County Assistant State’s Attorney Sabrina Stroops alleged amid a scuffle with Galesburg police, Saturday at the train depot, Kerwin was found with 468 grams of marijuana in a backpack.

Officers observed Kerwin during the stop, smoking what was believed to be marijuana. Stroops said police confronted him and he tried to hide the substance. A struggle ensued and the backpack was found with a plastic baggie and the substance inside.

Kerwin was traveling from South Carolina to California and had booked a return ticket. Judge Stephen Mathers set bond at $30,000 and set Kerwin’s next court date for Friday at 9 a.m.
