Local paranormal investigator weighs in on area ghost haunts

Galesburg is full of ghost stories but some hold more water than others according to a local paranormal investigator.

About 3 miles northwest of Monmouth, Cry Baby Bridge is a legend in which cars in neutral gear will get pushed over the bridge by a spirit.

Chris LaGrow, member of the Paranormal Research Group of Mid-Illinois has investigated and says gravity is more likely the culprit than ghosts.

“If you just Google search Cry Baby Bridge, you will see very similar stories and all the bridges even look similar,” he says.

Another much talked about location in the realm of local ghosts is Cherry Street Restaurant and Bar.

Legend has it that a woman named Roxanne died in a bathtub on the second floor and continues to haunt the building.

LaGrow says PRGMI’s first investigation as a group was Cherry Street where recorders picked up some interesting evidence, what they call EVP’s, or electronic voice phenomenon.

“We kind of push it to the side and say we really can’t say they’re anything because you couldn’t understand what’s being said,”he says. “But it really sounded liked we were getting someone upstairs at Cherry Street trying to communicate.”

LaGrow cautions would be ghost hunters to first and foremost be careful that any property they investigate be public land, or that they have permission.

He also advises that when investigating that you not assume something will happen, rather go to see if something might happen.
