West Central football players contract MRSA

Two West Central High School football players have been infected with MRSA, according to District 235 officials.

A recorded message from West Central Superintendent Paula Markey says the school cancelled football practice for the afternoon to disinfect and clean practice facilities.

Markey did not go into details about the students who were infected, but says the district is working closely with the Henderson County Health Department to make sure the school is safe.

MRSA is a bacterial staph infection that can be deadly. It is contracted by skin to skin contact or by touching contaminated articles.
