Mable Woolsey Elementary on track for new HVAC system by December

Knoxville District 202 planned on starting the school year with air conditioning in all three school buildings.Superintendent Steve Wilder says complications caused the district to change their installation target date to December 1 in Mable Woolsey Elementary but now swift progress is being made.

Galesburg based MSI Inc. did some preliminary work in August but has been waiting on equipment to arrive.

Wilder says it did arrive about 10 days ago and since then they’ve been working diligently, mostly during second shift, as to not interrupt school activity.

The original idea was to only install air conditioning but Wilder says the district decided updating the heating and ventilation simultaneously made sense.

Wilder tells WGIL that no matter the season, this new system will make for a comfortable learning environment.

“Not only will it provide air conditioning which we never had in the original part of the elementary school but it will help us to control the climate overall on a daily basis,” Wilder says. “So fall, winter spring, it doesn’t matter. It really is an improvement overall in the climate in the elementary school.”

Like many districts Knoxville has typically had early release days for students in the early part of the school year due to heat.

Wilder says with the cooling system installed, this should be the last year District 202 has to plan for heat days.
