This weekend: Drag queen show and craft shows

There’s two area craft shows happening this weekend, along with a drag queen show you won’t want to miss.
Queens of the Night is a fundraiser for a local support group, Walk for Baby Feet, that helps families deal with the loss of a child during pregnancy.

It’s being held at Visions on Friday night. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m.

It’s the second annual event and features Knox County Coroner Mark Thomas as one of the drag queens.

Thomas tells WGIL that this is his final performance and he’ll be hanging up his heels after this year.

“I’m not one of those guys that’s real good at saying no, especially for a good cause,” Thomas says. “I can’t say that dressing in drag is one of bucket list items I wanted to do but it’s certainly a learning experience.”

For those wanting to start their Christmas shopping early, there’s two places to do that this weekend. The city of Galva, northeast of Galesburg is hosting its annual craft show on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the city’s high school.

The event, now in its 38th year, is one of the largest one-day craft show in the area.

Admission is $2 dollars.

The other craft show on Saturday is Galesburg’s October Vendor-Fest from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the McAteer Center on South Prairie Street.

Over 20 vendors and crafters will be selling items.

The vendor-fest will also have food available, like Maid Rites, hot dogs with homemade sauerkraut and rootbeer floats.
