Candidates in local races tout endorsements

Candidates in a trio of local races are lauding their endorsements as time is running out for Knox County area voters to make their decision.
Dan Swanson, Republican running for Illinois’ 74th District has the support of former Congressman Bobby Schilling, Illinois Right to Life PAC, as well as Illinois A.B.A.T.E.

His Democratic opponent Bill Butts has the backing of Illinois Federation of Teachers, Illinois AFL-CIO and ASFCME, the state’s largest union of public employees.

All three groups are also backing Democrat John Curtis in his bid to unseat Republican incumbent Norine Hammond.

Hammond’s colleagues Sen. Chuck Weaver and retiring Rep. Don Moffitt publicly endorsed the Macomb Republican Wednesday.

The Quincy-Herald Whig also endorsed Hammond referring to her leadership on the “budget” and specifically higher ed funding.

The Chicago Tribune has put a stamp of endorsement on Hammond, Swanson and Democratic Rep Cheri Bustos.

Bustos’ endorsements include the Illinois Education Association and Vice President Joe Biden.

Patrick Harlan, the Republican running for the U.S. 17th has been endorsed by former Congressman Joe Walsh, Illinois Right to Life PAC and the Illinois Family Association.
