Your weekend: Bike rides, bar crawls and scenic drive highlights

Bikes, putting greens and the scenic drive highlight the Galesburg area’s weekend.
Some might be surprised that on Saturday they can drink, play mini-golf all while helping a local charity but Big Brothers Big Sisters Putt ‘n Crawl does just that.

Participants will make their away around eight local taverns, putting a hole at each stop.

Nicole Campen, Heart of Illinois Big Brothers Big Sister Community Partnership Manager tells Galesburg’s Morning News on WGIL even creating the holes has spawned a competition.

“Each one of the bars kind of come up with their own creative idea,” Campen says. “Duffy’s won last year because we started a new thing where the teams participating vote on what they thought the coolest hole was.”

The price is $100 for a foursome and registration is open right up to the kick off at noon at Iron Spike.

Before packing on the carbs though the Cyclist of Galesburg are holding a 40-mile bike ride touching Lakes Storey, Bracken and Rice, aptly named the Three Lakes Ride.

Registration starts at 8 a.m. and the ride at 9 behind Ride and Ride. The cost is $30 and helmets are required.

Maps and phone numbers will be provided to ensure no one gets lost.

Also COG member Jeremy Karlin says Cyclist of Galesburg have a no-drop policy meaning that if someone is lagging behind, someone will fall back to ride with them. Karlin says it’s not much fun to ride alone.

The last chance to visit the Knox County Scenic Drive is this weekend at stops in Maquon, Orange Chapel, Walnut Grove and more. The Spoon River Drive is continuing, as well.
