Knoxville school board OKs Galesburg Knox-Warren exit

Knoxville’s Board of Education approved the withdrawal of Galesburg from the Knox-Warren Special Education Co-op at their meeting last night.
Assuming that other member districts ROWVA, A-Town, Monmouth-Roseville, United and Williamsfield all approve the same measure, those remaining districts would form their own co-op.

However, Knoxville Superintendent Steve Wilder tells WGIL as it relates to Knox-Warren this year will be status quo.

“We’re going to continue to operate as we have in the past but while we’re doing that we’ll be planning throughout the year what the co-op’s going to look like in the future,” Wilder says. “We hope to make as many of those decisions as we can in the fall at a reasonable time frame. Not only to move forward but to get the word out to staff, students and parents on what the co-op’s going to look like in the future.”

In other news District 202 is still projecting a surplus budget for FY17 with a minor change from last month.

Wilder believes the surplus will be $146,000 about $4,000 more than what he reported the previous month.

Knoxville is still waiting on $2.1 million they will be reimbursed from the state’s Capital Development Board for money the district took from reserves to pay for the construction of their high school.

Wilder isn’t terribly worried though. He says he’s been in contact with the CDB and things are progressing, even if it’s taking a little more time than they would’ve hoped.
