The exterior work on the Knox County Courthouse is almost all completed and courthouse step repairs aren’t far behind.
Cody Basham, architectural consultant to the county board, told building committee members last night the work that’s almost done includes applying window sealant and tuck pointing masonry.
Basham had estimated at last month’s meeting that those projects would cost around $10,000 each.
There’s approximately 3,700 lineal feet of window sealant that needs replaced and 2,500 sq. ft of masonry on the building’s exterior.
Basham says next comes step repairs but progress is being made.
“I anticipate those being done hopefully at the end of this week and that way we can go to bid the following week,” Basham says. “We’ll get on schedule that way and we can get bids back by September 6 which will be our next meeting time,”
Basham had estimated that steps would cost about $71,000 for the actual steps.
The building committee is tackling these repairs, many of them admittedly overdue while they have the money to do so.
The board approved divesting the county’s full $760,000 from the sale of land to Love’s Travel Stop and Country Store into the building fund along with $1 for every ton at the Knox County Landfill.
