Judge sets bond at $100K in gun, drug case

A Knox County judge yesterday set bond at $100,000 in the case of a Galesburg man accused of gun and drug charges.

James P. Coleman is charged with possession of 100 to 400 grams of cocaine with intent to deliver, possession of one to 15 grams of ecstasy, possession of a firearm by a felon and other charges. The 35 year old could see up to 40 years in prison for the coke charge.

Assistant State’s Attorney Sabrina Stroops said police responded Tuesday to reports of shots fired in the 500 block of Phillips Street.

A vehicle driven by Coleman was tracked to a North Whitesboro neighborhood where officers were led on a foot chase before the suspect was arrested.

Inside the vehicle, police found a loaded handgun and a sock holding around 150 grams of cocaine, a small amount of ecstasy and more than $5,000 cash.

Judge Stephen Mathers appointed a public defender to the case. Coleman is scheduled to appear tomorrow in court.
