Orpheum announces Red Carpet Series for theatre’s centennial anniversary

The Orpheum Theatre is putting up seven shows in their Red Carpet Series as the theatre celebrates 100 years.

The Orpheum announced the line up yesterday.

Theatre Executive Director Kevin Maynard says he typically likes the line up to be set in February but the process took longer while the theatre pursued bigger acts.

Maynard tells Galesburg’s Morning News on WGIL, he and theatre staff try to offer something for everyone.

“We live in a fairly small community but we want to make sure that everyone in our community is able to come out and see at least one thing on the Red Carpet Series that they would like,” Maynard says. “And I would argue that most things that if people came out and saw the shows they would love every single one of them.”

Highlights from this year’s series include One Night in Memphis, a night of music from national touring artists Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins impersonators.

The live radio play at Christmas time, It’s a Wonderful Life will return.

March legendary country gospel singer Larry Gatlin will be in town for an evening of music and story telling.

In April, Kathleen Madigan will grace the stage with her comedic stylings.

An Orpheum news release calls her “one of the most respected comedians of her generation”

“I think we’ve put together a great season. I’m really excited about it and it’s great that it will be celebrating our centennial as well,” Maynard says.

He advises that buying a season ticket package will save theatre goers about 20 percent over buying show tickets individually.
