District 205 positions up for recall, public hearing for working cash fund bonds tonight

The District 205 School Board is expected to vote to recall 18 positions and add three new ones at their meeting tonight.

Board members could approve bringing back 10 paraprofessionals for fewer hours than before and restoring full-time hours for six other paras.

The GHS North Safety Officer position could also be brought back with fewer hours.

The recalls are positions that received Reduction in Force notices, many of them in February.

Members could also authorize three new positions tonight; one full-time and two part-time.

A full-time K-9 English as a Second Language teacher, an additional part-time K-9 ESL teacher and a part-time elementary level Lion’s Quest teacher have been listed.

Human Resources Director Jon Bradburn tells WGIL Lion’s Quest is becoming part of elementary students specials rotation alongside art and gym.

“Lions Quest is a social emotional curriculum that we’re using for our Kindergarten through fifth grade students,” Bradburn says. “It deals with soft skills, conflict resolution, how to deal with bullying.”

According to tonight’s agenda, differentials for three school clubs could also be restored.

Members will vote on restoring stipends paid to advisers of Galesburg High School’s Foreign Language Club, Noontime Rotary Interject Club and the drama programs at Churchill and Lombard.

Meanwhile, a public hearing regarding the district’s potential sale of $6 million in bonds is expected tonight as well.
