Galesburg man pleas to aggravated battery, rape case headed to jury trial

A Galesburg man accused of sexual assault pleaded guilty to aggravated battery in one of three cases against him involving sexual violence.

Wesley England appeared today in Knox County Circuit Court. Judge Paul Mangieri sentenced the 30 year old to two years in prison for an aggravated battery that occurred last year.

Court documents show one charge of simple battery was dropped in exchange for the plea. In another 2015 case, England is accused of aggravated criminal sexual assault, a Class X felony worth up to 60 years in prison.

Monmouth attorney Kyle J. Worby, England’s attorney in that case, filed a motion to dismiss that Mangieri denied today. The case was continued to a June 20 jury trial date.

Assistant State’s Attorney Brian Kerr says the third case, which alleges England fondled the breasts of an elderly woman, is scheduled for a plea hearing next Thursday.
