Your weekend: Run Galesburg Run, Knox Commencement, Tractor Show all highlights

This weekend is highlighted by three big events — Run Galesburg Run, Knox College’s commencement and the third annual Tractor Show, Pull and More.

Sunday marks Run Galesburg Run’s fifth year. People can still register ahead of the races online or at Ride & Run. Race-day registration for the half marathon, 5K and one mile fun run is at 6 a.m. Sunday before the 7 a.m. start.

Kim Schrader, race director, tells Galesburg’s Morning News on WGIL the event’s 370 volunteers make the whole show possible.

“We’re so appreciative of the people who are willing to volunteer,” she says, “because whether they’re runners, or they care about a runner, or they know a runner or they envision themselves being a runner, the success of the event for the runners comes from volunteers and from their willingness to be there and provide efficient information and work the aid stations.”

Entry in the half marathon is $75, the 5K is $37 and the fun run is $30. The race starts at Kellogg and Simmons streets.

After the races, Knox College’s commencement begins at 10 a.m. and last to around noon Sunday. This year’s speaker is U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin.

Ahead of the Sunday events, the Tractor Show, Pull and More starts at 8 a.m. tomorrow in the Knox County Fairgrounds.

Throughout the day, a tractor show, tractor parade, tractor and lawn mower pull, dinner and auction will be held. The event benefits Relay for Life.
