Hermon man sentenced to 12 years in sex case

A Hermon man pleaded guilty yesterday to predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

Knox County Judge Scott Shipplett sentenced 31-year-old Adam H. Sampson to 12 years in prison for the Class X sexual assault charge. For the sexual abuse charge, Sampson was sentenced to seven years to be served at the same time as the 12-year stint.

Sampson is required to serve 85 percent of his sentence.

Court records show the case involved two victims, one born in 2006 and the other in 2005.

In exchange for yesterday’s plea, the state dropped a separate count of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child.

Sampson was arrested last July by Galesburg police. He was credited for 313 days for time served.

Attorney Jim Harrell, former chief public defender, represented the defense.
