Memorial Day parade steps off from Seminary Street at 10 a.m.

Today, citizens across the country will honor the men and women who lost their lives for our freedom.

It’s Memorial Day, and in Galesburg, the annual parade will step off in just a few hours at 10 a.m.

The parade route begins in the 100 block of North Seminary Street this year. The route starting point was changed this year, due to congestion issues on Chambers street and traffic changes as a result of the creation of the Bickerdyke Bridge.

Parade organizers will form staging areas in the municipal and church parking lots east of Kellogg Street between Ferris and Water Streets. Participants can be dropped off by the parking lot entrance just north of Full Viewpoint Park.

The parade will proceed south on Seminary to Main Street, turning right toward the Public Square. From there it will travel the normal route west to Cherry Street where it will turn south and end near the Knox County Courthouse for a short ceremony to follow.
