Reports of structure fire leads to meth arrest

A Galesburg man appeared in Knox County Circuit Court yesterday following his arrest over the weekend on meth charges.

According to police reports, Galesburg officers arrested 45-year-old Robert R. Minor Jr. Friday on charges of meth production, possession of meth manufacturing materials and possession of between 100 and 400 grams of the drug.

Police responded to reports of a structure fire early Friday morning in the 200 block of North Broad Street. Fire crews spotted Miner, who had a cut on his forehead, in the basement.

When officers gained entry to the basement, smoke poured from the open door. Police detected a strong chemical smell and spotted several items, including glass pipes and pseudoephedrine, consistent with the use and production of meth.

Police found 383.6 grams of meth in Miner’s home.

Miner remains in the Knox County jail on $25,000 bond awaiting a Wednesday court appearance. It was not immediately known if Miner has an attorney.
