Drug and gun charges filed against 2 Galesburg men

Police arrested two Galesburg men yesterday after pulling over a vehicle with expired registration.

Assistant State’s Attorney Jon Schlake said in court today that 27-year-old Tearyll Shunick was driving a vehicle while high on cannabis yesterday. His passenger, 21-year-old Zachary Yocum, had in his possession 5.3 grams of pot with another 124.3 grams under his seat.

Shunick faces DUI charges as well as possession of 30 to 500 grams of pot. Yocum is accused of possession of 30 to 500 grams of cannabis and an additional charge of possession of the drug with intent to distribute.

Schlake said Yocum admitted to possessing a revolver found in the vehicle’s glove compartment, which led to charges of armed violence because the weapon is believed to have been used in a drug deal.

Judge Stephen Mathers appointed public defenders in both cases. Shunick’s bond was set at $20,000 and Yocum’s at $50,000

Shunick appears in court again June 3; Yocum at 11 a.m. tomorrow.
