Bethany man arrested in pot bust at Amtrak depot

Prosecutors say they intend to charge a Bethany man with possession of a controlled substance and cannabis following his arrest yesterday at the Galesburg Amtrak depot.

Nathan T. Mount appeared in Knox County Circuit Court via video today. Assistant State’s Attorney Sabrina Stoops said no charges had been officially filed at the time, but her office intended to charge the 21 year old with possession of more than 500 grams of cannabis and possession of less than 15 grams of a controlled substance.

She said police were granted permission from Mount at the Amtrak station to search his luggage. In one bag, officers found a pill bottle with multiple prescription meds, including Oxycontin.

In another bag, police found 3.7 pounds of pot in vacuum sealed containers. Additionally, nearly 25 grams of psychedelic mushrooms were seized.

Judge Stephen Mathers set bond at $50,000 and set Mount’s next court date for 9 a.m. tomorrow.
