Student confesses to ROWVA bomb threat

The ROWVA school district has identified a student as the source of a bomb threat discovered on Monday at the district’s high school.

Student privacy laws prevent District 208 from divulging the student’s name but in a news release Superintendent Joe Sornberger says the student “confessed to making the threat” and the situation will be handled according to school policy.

The ROWVA High School Student Handbook says students who make a bomb threat will be recommended for expulsion.

Knox County Sheriff’s deputies and administrators did a preliminary sweep of school grounds followed by an investigation conducted by the Bomb Divison of the Illinois Secretary of State’s Office, both searches failing to find any explosives.

Sornberger also cancelled classes on Wednesday in response to the threat.

The Superintendent’s release goes on to thank parents and Knox County Sheriff’s Department for patience and support, saying that the “safety of our students and staff is our top priority”.
