Galesburg man accused of fighting police posts bond

A Galesburg man posted bond yesterday after his arrest for aggravated battery to police.

According to Knox County jail records, bond was set at $25,000 in the case of 34-year-old Lucas L. Currie Sr. He posted $2,500 to get out.

Currie faces charges of aggravated battery to a peace officer and resisting police.

Galesburg police reports show Currie nearly hit officers with his car while authorities monitored the bar crowd early Sunday morning near Casey’s General Store on West Main Street. When police tried to place Currie under arrest for reckless driving in the Casey’s parking lot, he pushed an officer onto the hood of a car.

On two occasions, police tried to deploy their Tasers on Currie, however, neither was effective. A crowd that gathered around the incident prevented police from pursuing when Currie entered his vehicle and drove away.

He was later apprehended. Currie’s next court date is at 9 a.m. May 23.
