Fair pageant short on participants as fair takes place earlier this year

Contestants for the sash and tiara are needed more than ever this year at the Knox County Fair, according to last year’s pageant queen.

2015 Queen Tiffani Fink says numbers are abnormally low for this year’s miss, junior miss and little miss Knox County Fair Pageants. The problem seems to be correlated with the fair starting earlier this year on July 6th.

Fink says fair officials extended the deadline to May 4th for residents interested. She tells Galesburg’s Morning News on WGIL there is certainly a need.

“We have about three miss contestants,” Fink says. “Junior miss we have about 10 I think, little miss we have about 9 which is not normal. We usually have a lot more than this.”

Fink says those still looking to sign up can get an application from a number of Galesburg locations including Mother Goosebumps, Ducky’s Formalwear and Buzz and Company hair salon.

The pageant is slated for June 26th at the Orpheum Theatre.

This year is the 166th annual fair, which will last through July 10th.
