Ticket issued in Thursday semi wreck

A North Dakota man was ticketed in yesterday morning’s semi-trailer wreck that held up traffic for nearly five hours on Interstate 74 near Galesburg..

According to the Galesburg Police Department, 48-year-old Kent D. Hansen was ticketed for driving too fast for conditions after his westbound semi veered into a median at mile marker 48 on I-74, flipped and came to a stop partially in the roadway.

Another semi collided with Hansen’s and then a jeep hit the second semi. This before a dog ran from one of the vehicles and was hit by a Ford sedan, damaging that car as well.

Police responded before 5:30 a.m. and traffic remained closed until about 10 a.m. yesterday.

The driver and passenger in the second semi along with the jeep driver were taken to OSF St. Mary Medical Center for nonlife-threatening injuries. Hansen, who also suffered nonlife-threatening injuries, was treated at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

Fog was believed to have contributed to the wreck.
