The Sandburg Mall will be closing another of it’s anchor stores with the news today that the Galesburg Kmart is closing it’s doors.
This comes from store manager Connie Sullivan. She did not say when the store will officially close.
Kmart parent company Sears Holdings announced today in a news release the Galesburg store will be among 68 Kmart and 10 Sears locations around the nation that will close. All but two Kmart’s will close in July and are expected to close in September.
This follows announcement in February that they would “accelerate the closing of unprofitable stores.”
Edward S. Lampert, Sears Holdings CEO, is quoted in the news release as saying, “The decision to close stores is a difficult but necessary step as we take aggressive actions to strengthen our company, fund our transformation and restore Sears Holdings to profitability.”
Calls to the Sears press office were not immediately returned.
