UPDATE: One dead after train hits semi-trailer

A Kewanee man is dead after an Amtrak train travelling west into Galesburg on the line between Quincy and Chicago crashed into a semi-trailer around 10 a.m. today near Galva. 

The Henry County Sheriff’s Department says a semi driven by a 65-year-old man was crossing the tracks eastbound when the train struck his vehicle.

The driver was using a private drive.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. No name has been released pending notification of family.

The Amtrak train was carrying 47 passengers. One was transported from the scene with minor injuries.

Amtrak Spokesman Marc Magliari says the train did not derail.
