Vietnam Veterans’ Breakfast and Camelot Dinner this weekend

A breakfast honoring veterans of the Vietnam War and a dinner encouraging people to vote are set for this weekend.

From 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. tomorrow in the Bethel Baptist Church, the Rebecca Parke chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is hosting the Vietnam Veteran’s Breakfast.

The breakfast is free to those who have served in the Vietnam era, from 1955 to 1975.

Local DAR chapter Regent Pam Johnson tells Galesburg’s Morning News on WGIL the breakfast pays respect to vets.

“They were standing up for America, freedom, democracy and answering the call of duty,” she says. “Whether they were in Vietnam here in America or on a ship near Korea, or wherever, they were answering the call of duty and we honor that and we thank God for them.”

At 5 p.m. tomorrow in the Kensington, the Democratic Women of Knox County are holding their Camelot Dinner. State Senator Toi Hutchinson will deliver the event’s keynote speech and a silent auction will be held.

Pam Davidson, with the Democratic Women of Knox County, says several nice items will be up for bid.

“Some of the silent auction things are from beauty to family night games to having little martinis,” she says.

The theme of this year’s Camelot Dinner is “change comes at the poll.” Tickets are $30 or $35 at the door.
