Ameren Illinois rate request could lower customer bills

Ameren Illinois is saying that their customers, including in Knox County may see a drop in their rates if the Illinois Commerce Commission approves their request for a $14 million reduction in delivery services for 2017.

A news release from AI says this would be the fourth such rate decrease since 2011 when the Energy Infrastructure Modernization Act was passed by Illinois’ General Assembly.

The legislation was an effort to invest in smart grids, reform industry regulations and modernize infrastructure.

Senior VP of Regulatory Affairs and Financial Services for AI Craig Nelson says that the legislation is working as it was designed.

He says it’s given the company “regulatory certainty” to make improvements to an aging energy infrastructure.

The Illinois Commerce Commission has eight months to review and decide the fate of AI rate request.

AI gas customers can also expect to see savings on the supply portion of their utility bill beginning in April as the company reports most customers will save $28 annually.
