Man wounded in officer involved shooting near Farmington

An unnamed male suspect has been hospitalized with a non-life threatening gun shot wound following a physical altercation with a Farmington Police officer yesterday.

In a news release, Illinois State Police say that FPD and Fulton County Sheriff’s responded to alleged domestic battery incident around 3:14 p.m. when authorities stopped the man in his vehicle on Park Road. 

When an officer ordered the suspect out of his car, the man charged him, struck him in the head, eventually taking taking him to the ground. The officer then fired one round into the suspects leg. 

ISP indicate that the officer was treated for contusions and evaluated for a concussion and has been released. The suspect is expected to be arrested on “charges relating to the incident” once released from the hospital. 

An investigation is ongoing at this time.
