Sugar High Theatricals lands sweet spot on Seminary Street

Sugar High Theatricals debuted in the area in October 2014 and since then have staged shows at nine different locations.

Now they’re putting down roots at 47 S. Seminary Street next door to Chez Willy’s at what they’re calling The Candy Box Theatre.IMG_20160325_131709249

Melanie Delbridge-Heskett and Fred Heskett are Sugar High’s founders who moved to Galesburg about a year ago and produced their first show in town before even unpacking from their move.

Their move next to Chez Willy’s started after Sugar High produced a show at the restaurant last fall.

Delbridge-Heskett tells WGIL when the location became available next door Chez Willy reached out to them to inquire about making the partnership between the theatre company and restaurant permanent.

“In Chez Willy’s they don’t have room to do a show there every single week but they had this space and they contacted me and said ‘would you like to take it over’,” Delbridge-Heskett says. “We planned on opening up our own space, we just didn’t know it was going to happen so quickly.”

With the new space Sugar High also plans to expand their entertainment line up.

In a news release they say The Candy Box Theatre will offer sketch comedy, stand up comedy, open mic nights, art underground performances as well as dinner theatre performances every Thursday and Saturday evening.

A grand opening celebration is set for April 22 from 6 to 11 p.m. which is free and open to community.

Guests will get a tour of the space, meet company members and get a “sampler” from past shows.
