Animal control contract appears before council for vote tonight

A new contract for animal control and sheltering services will be voted upon tonight by Galesburg City Council members.

The deal would renew those services with the Prairieland Animal Welfare Center for five more years and $1.2 M.

According to council documents, the city would pay just over $20,600 per month for the first three years with an option for the fourth and fifth year.

If approved, this would be the fifth consecutive five year contract with the center. The current contract expires March 31st.

Meanwhile, the city will award the second Youth Extra Effort Award of the year tonight.

The recipient is high school student Sarah Wallenfelsz. She was nominated by the Galesburg Public Library for her work on the library’s Teen Advisory Board, High School Action Committee and as a summer reading intern.

Council meets tonight in City Hall at 6:30 p.m., with two award presentations beginning at 6:15 p.m.
