State to charge juveniles as adults in Tinkham murder

All seven suspects involved in the shooting death of 19-year-old Dakota R. Tinkham appeared in Knox County Circuit Court this afternoon, where judge Paul Mangieri read the offenses to each.

Due to the severity of the crimes, 16-year-old Justin Timmons and 17-year-old Devontae Williams–the two juveniles in the case will be charged as adults, each on four counts of first degree murder and additional counts of home invasion and armed robbery. First degree murder charges carry a maximum sentence of 60 years in prison per count. 19-year old Miguel A. Roma and 18-year-old Jovendia C. Williams face the same charges.

Mangieri also read offenses for 18-year-old Raymond Gable,18-year-old Charles E. Posey and 19-year-old Dalton B. McKee, which include four counts of home invasion and three counts of armed robbery as well.

Felony Assistant State’s Attorney Stephanie Hilton tells WGIL that all had different roles in the shooting of Tinkham, which took place Wednesday night when the 19-year-old Galesburg man was found shot to death in his Emery Street home.

Devontae Williams allegedly fired the weapon which killed Tinkham, while Roma also carried a weapon but did not fire.

Nearly all opted for a public defender today. Additionally, a bond of $1 M has been set for all seven suspects now, who will reappear in court this Monday.
